The Multicultural Commons
The newest addition to the Social Justice & Equity Center, the Multicultural Commons serves as a social hub where students of BIPOC identities can find solidarity with fellow BIPOC community members. This multi-functional space is designed to provide students a specific location where they are able to be their most authentic selves without fear of judgment. While community members are welcome, the Commons is centered on the BIPOC experience and strives to be a safe space for our growing community.
Advocacy and Education
The Racial Justice team is committed to supporting BIPOC students by serving as program developers and advocates. Our staff is responsible for creating programs that empower students, create community, and promote awareness on a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, tribal, religious, and international diversity topics.
As the university’s hub for cultural and racial diversity, the staff members are dedicated to working collaboratively with the SOU partners in order to provide the most appropriate advocacy possible for students in need.
The Equity Coordinator for Racial Justice serves as a Confidential Advocate. Confidential Advocates offer complete confidentiality and will provide options, without triggering further actions, that allow you time to make the decision you deem fit for yourself. Please contact Marvin Woodard at woodardm@sou.edu if you are in need of specific advocacy.
